Airtel Super Singer 2008 - Ravi

It is very clear that Ravi is going to win Airtel Super Singer 2008 Title. His performance in the medley round was simply mind blowing. From the very beginning of the contest, when he sang ‘Pen ondru Kandaen’ song along with Prasanna, I was pretty sure about Ravi winning the title and his yesterday’s performance reassures it again and the judge Srinivas himself told that openly in yesterday’s episode.

Ravi already has won the SS Music Launch Pad singing contest and I still remember Ravi’s brilliant rendition of ‘Veyilodu Vilayadi’ song in the finals of that contest. Ravi’s voice in Yuvan’s music will be an interesting combination. Let us wait and watch.

Airtel Super singer 2008 is not so interesting this time mainly because there is no any competition and we know who is going to be the winner. All the other contestants though have very good voice quality, is not as consistent in their performances as Ravi. But Deepshika’s exit was surprising. I was expecting Ragini Sri to leave. Though Ragini Sri has classical music knowledge and training, none of her performances so far was at par.

Hi suresh
nice judgement
its obvious that RAVI is going to win the title this year and i will sincerely for it

I also believe the same. He simply ruled in the medley round. The way he sang "udhaya udhaya" was simply mind blowing. do you have that video?

Unknown said...

After I heard Ravi sing Udhaya Udhaya in the medley round and Srinivas appreciated it, I recollected that I heard that song long back and now it is on the top of my playlist. First, hats off to Rahman for the wonderful and intricate composition.

Despite all the sound blasts from Rahman it is the melodies that he has composed that make him extremely different to other MDs that we have seen in Tamil film industry. Any one who has a doubt should hear the song "Endhan Vaanil Kadhal Nilave" sung by SPB in Kadhal Virus. SPB oozes honey in that whole song.

P.S. Suresh Kumar said...

Sam - Yes. Endhan vanil is one of my favourites too. SPB's rendition is just out of the world in that song...

Why is there a age restriction to all the singer contests?. e.g. Airtel super singer had age limit <35 years? Top singer has <40...

Anonymous said...

I beg to differ with you. Ravi's voice is not unique. There is no Jeevan or Charm in his voice. Though Srinivas supports him blindly, I don't think he will succeed. Many times his performance in this competition had been below average. Even if he wins 'Super Singer 2008', he may not succeed as a play back singer. We have seen much sweeter voice like 'Harish Raghavendra' struggling to get opportunities.

Anonymous said...

I am getting repeatedly convinced that age restrictions should not be there for music competitions. There can be only categorisation of age. At some point all those categories have to pooled up together.
Air tel super singer 2008 is a disappointment in this regard as all are in the bracket of <25 years. We can see the contestents (barring a few) lack emotion and most dont have the voice culture. As a result of age restriction, lot of mature talents are getting disregarded in such competitions.

P.S. Suresh Kumar said...

I agree that there shouldn't be age restrictions when it comes to performing arts or music in specific but it is there for more practical reasons I guess.

I think Ajeesh is also remarkably talented. What I particularly enjoy about the series is how each individual contestant is slowly emerging out of his comfort zone and attempting to liberate himself. Initially prasanna had been the best at presentation. The others are slowly posing a strong competition to the presentation aspect. rangini for one.

just some thoughts. I do like ravi but i think ajeesh is the best seller. there are times you feel like you are listening to a completely new album. he has some songs that werent particularly captivating in the original version, after his rendition i am hooked. its all very unexpected..just goes to show..we never know

P.S. Suresh Kumar said...

Sarumati - I completely agree. Ajeesh has definitely come a long way, but still he hasn't opened his mouth enough to satisfy Srinivas... His 'Vellai Pookal' rendition was brilliant and his major plus is that he improvises a lot.... may the best win...

Anonymous said...

I wish Ravi should win. Unfortunately we have seen there is lot of favoritism going on lately by tow judges. As per them looks like either Ajeesh or Rohit wants to be the SS2008.

P.S. Suresh Kumar said...

Anon - I don't think there is any favouritism in Super singer. Infact there were episodes in which Srinivas told that Ravi may win the title.... Rohit is going to be out of competition in one or two weeks...

Sriram is the director for Airtel Super singer, and all these favouritsm towards RaginiSri is becos she is related to Sriram. Also, she will be on the top 4 list. And one important thing is that this recall round is intentionally created to recall ragini. i read all thse stuff in one of the forum and its shocking that even unni menon is acting...shame on this reality show..its an unreality show...also the top 4 contestants are Ravi, Renu, Ajeesh and Raginisri..and the winner is sh...secret...that singer sings without opening the eyes..and is not a well trained singer..but voice is soooo good

Anonymous said...

Thanks Suresh. I too agree with you. I dont think there is any blatant favouritism as such. There are times when i dont quite understand the verdict. I thought Rangini and Ajeesh were the major rockers for the disco round. I was a little uninspired by Ravi and felt that Prasanna, though great as always was not at his best.

I believe that a person should not be penalised just because she is related to someone. There are days when Ragini sri is very decent. I havent been a fan of hers as yet. but i think ajeesh and rangini have something special about them. even when i am in the kitchen cooking, they sound great. as though i was listening to an album.

and anonymous..renu's voice is good. i will agree that she does have to open her eyes at some point. let's see how this goes. i am literally surviving each day at work in anticipation of watching this series.

I could see some favouritsm.. keeping mirror image intentions, which makes judges to anti react on situations.. which is pretty pathetic...I hope let the best voice deserve for SS 2008

There is a strong opinion among the judges such as Sreelekha Parthasarathy, Malgudi shubha and such people that Prasanna lack classical music training.

In this regard, I have different view. Even SPB was not a classical artist; P. Susheela, S Janaki and learnt classical music later. There are hudreds and thousands of classical musicians and singers around and they are not able to attain the status of Light Music Composer. But even without a classical music background, we have seen a number of light music composer.
The dedication of Prassana has tobe appreciated and he should not be discouraged. Ravi is SS 2008 sings well; but as someone mentioned, there is no jeevan in his voice. But Ajeesh's singing is good. Ragini is not consistent.
Renu's voice is good. But as far as consistency is concerned even she lacks the same.

Classical Music Training will help a singer understand the notation of course.

Whatever the case may be, to select one in SS 2008, the basic criteria should be consistency and versatility. Favouritism should not be the hall mark.

If what Prasanna mentioned while he cried after rendering his classical piece, I understand that they are retaining him in SS 2008 only because he is a great entertainer. The show has merit because of his presence.

Parvathy - Since I wrote this post, there has been significant improvements in every singer who are on the chase now. Prasanna is definitely a great entertainer, but I don't think judges retained just because of that. Infact, in the classical round, even the well trained singers made mistakes, so to me, their decision not to eliminate any was very fair and well justified. And I don't watch Airtel Super Singer just for Prasanna's performance.

yeah prasanna's venkatachalane was awesome... even ajeesh n vijay did a gud job..

Hi people.....

I most definitely feel favouritism has a role in Airtel Super singer..I have noticed the judges encouraging a few people and discouraging a few, though not directly...Haven't you noticed srinivas appreciating Renu even when her performance was mediocore???Sujatha does nothing both support Srinivas's views....To sum up, Airtel Super Singer has lost its charm it once had....

Anonymous said...

Hi all,

I wish the judges and Vijay TV by now understands that reality show has to be a true reality show. The audience do not like favoritism. Otherwise, they can select a singer by just hearing his / her voice on CD?

Anonymous said...

Raginisri's voice suits for songs like "Ellanthappazham" (sexy voice) only, not for melody, My wish is audience should not select her to save us from future torture!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Hi Viewers,
Rahinisri's recall round entry was the reason to Rohit quit his music journey in Super Singer. I am sure there is favourism going on behind the sceans to promote Rahinisri.

Anonymous said...

Hi viewers,

I am surprised that Raginisri has been immunized for the next round!!!!! Many a time, inspite of having a sweet voice, Renu fails to do justice to many a song. In Ragini's case, she does not have a great voice nor a great skill. Even "Elanthapazham", if only L.R. Easwary had heard her(Ragini) sing, I am sure, she would have brought out the major blunders Ragini committed : One small example in mispronunciation : she said ' sekka sevantha payam"; it should go like this: " chekka chevandha payam ". The voice shake was not at all apt to be spot selected. Even inspite of this blog site, it is very clear that there is favouritsm going on in Airtel SS 2008.

Anonymous said...

Ony a person who knows or familiar with "Madras Bhashai" , the tamil lingo of Madras can judge "Elantha payam song.

Unni I am sure is not familiar with that slag; Sujatha for sure does not know Madras bhashai. Srinivasan too, does not seem to know. Hence, all the three could not bring out the mistakes of Raginisri's rendering of elantha payam song.

Anonymous said...

Ananth Vaidyanathan mostly aptly advised/counselled Prasanna that he need not learn Carnatic Music to improve his music talent. His comparison to Shamshad Beegum's despair was apt.

He can learn (as just songs) many varnams and keerthanams of different Raagams, so that his voice has the flexibility to improvise.

P.S. Suresh Kumar said...

Anon - Raginisri is a katcheri singer, light music is definitely not her forte... I don't know why she tries too hard to make it in film music. Her performance in classical music round was brilliant...

I didn't like here 'Unakkena naan' performance in western round.. But 'Magic journey' was a bold attempt and she was able to sing it with right attitude, and actually the voice cracks and breath control are her biggest problems... but when it comes to western songs, these actually don't matter much

Also she was immunized because, all the performances in that round were below par...

Prasanna will definitely be eliminated within next two rounds... I also agree with Anand vaidyanathan... but my problem with Prasanna is that he tries to immitate the voice of the original singer in each song... which is fine for a live performance but not for a playbakc singer...

Anonymous said...

The judges pointed out the true fact:when Ajeesh sang "enakkoru girl friend venumada", that the true spirit was missing.

Similarly, they should have pointed out what was really lacking in Ragini's elanthampazhan song. May be they didnt catch the spirit of the original song.

That was a song, the lyric of which was argued in the court; but Kannadasan won.

Airtel Super Singer 2008, I suppose, will pull on for another 3 months.

Because, they will eliminate one every second week only. This has become like another mega serial.

But they are successful in capturing the audience.

Good !!!!

P.S. Suresh Kumar said...

Anon - I am okay with it. After a boring start, the show is more interesting now as singers have improved quite a lot....

So sad to see Prasanna go. He was really a 'live wire' no doubt. He is very hardworking. Any difficult song he practices and tries to give his maximum. In the Global market, we talk of ATTITUDE and give 100% for that. Here Prasanna takes all the 100 marks. I am sure God blesses him with a successful life.
A SS 2008 is not the be all and end all of life. I wish him all the best!!!

Parvathy here; dont you think Hema Malini should change her body language. The way she talks and the way she orders while saying "take your seat............ " (I mean every time this happens) it is not becoming of a modest girl at all. She appears arrogant and apart from this she looks as though she is suppressing Yugi. The previous anchor Chinmayi was too great. This Malini should have learnt behaviour from her predecessor. Why Vijay TV is blind to such essential facts?

Anonymous said...

You are right the comperes are absolutely drab and boring with their sytlised way of talking. HM appears very cocky and Yugi is Mary's little lamb . Chinmayi was doing a gr8 job.

I think the judgement of Unni menon was abolutley right in knocking off Prasanna. The shows goal is to pick up a playback singer who can sing a new tune and on that draw song Vijay was way ahead in terms of grasping and presentation. There are dozens and dozens of stage singers who would 150% do a better job than Prasanna. He is a good mimcry artiste, an entertainer but his music has flaws in terms of average voice, incorrect pitch alignment.

Renu & Ranjani are good artistes with good resonance and Ranjani's very different voice, vocal inflexions are playback friendly. She has been improving like crazy through the rounds. She definitely has got promise.

Ravi is a clinically perfect singer, the favorite of everybody He is well trained, music is very clean though being soulful is another issue.. He maybe okay for a Yuvan type of song.(Harish Ragavendra u got competition.

Ajeesh is a a bright spot in the competiton and has improved thru the rounds , exhibits a original voice, good vocal dynamics, resonance and originality for rendition of various genres of music. But so was Nikhil Mathew (ASS 2007)???

Vijay Narayan: A creative musician, very average voice.

Raginishree: Talented musician, classically inclined voice, vocal imperfections -voice cracks a lot.. has had a lot of luck in getting back thanks to RAGS being judges favorite.

The sad part is that a lot of good singers with very good tonal quality were knocked off in the earlier rounds who would have done 100 times a much better job than Prasanna, Ragini especially after so many rounds of corrective & valuable advice. They were knocked off by some hasty, judgements.

If the judging goes right (???) then I think the winner could be Ranjani or Ravi and if the other way it could be RAGS.....WAIT AND WATCH

The opinions of the judges of ASS with the exception of Srinivas who also being a music director are just YES SIR YES SIR with no strong decsion making ability. I think the judges need to be clear and hard in their views and not what u say is what I say.

SAD THAT NOT BEEN ABLE TO SEE A RICH (SPB, SRINI, CHITRA_) OR UNIQUE (KARTHIK), DIVINE (KJJ) OR melodiois(HARIHARAN, JAYACHANDRAN< SUJATHA)VOICE WHICH BLOWS U AWAY ON THIS SHOW. THE EXCEPTIONAL TALENT IS SURELY NOT COME OUT BUT WAITING OR STRUGGLING SOME WHERE FOR A BREAK.

THX FOR YOUR PATIENCE.....

parvathy subramanian said...

can anyone explain what they mean by unplugged? Previously there used to be just a piano and no rhythm; now there seems to be a drum pad too.

What exactly do they mean by unplugged.
-parvathy

Anonymous said...

What is unplugged ? Good Question . In musical terms it means creativity unleashed. But as far as ASS goes it means the judges listen to the songs with their earplugs off !! Just a way of pulling the show on till Ravi's son and Ajeesh's daughter starts singing..

Ajeesh was good with his creativity coming out clean. Renu was also good with the songs melody being brought out.Ravi's singing lacked depth and fell short.

Anonymous said...

i agree! Ajeesh has been amazing on both days. and ranjani had a slow start but rapidly picked up. her pon megalai was record quality. I am absolutely thrilled to watch the way in which they progress.

what i dont understand is how ajeesh and ravi are comparable and how ravi scored better for kalaivaniye. its a genuine query. i don't actually understand. i keep getting puzzled by the judges' opinion at times. perhaps the lack of jeevan shuts of my ability to appreciate ravi's singing. is there something technical that i have missed. why 21(ravi) and 19(ajeesh)? what am i missing

parvathy said...

Even I loved to watch Ranjani and Renu sing; Ajesh's was brilliant. Of course Ravi's was also great. This time I think Vijay will be eliminated. His voice is a little non cooperative. He is creative indeed; may be he will blossom to be a Music Director.

I wish I see all the four---- Ranjani, Renu, Ajesh and Ravi to be declared Super singers. They are indeed wonderful!!!!! All of them are hardworking too. It is evident that Ananth Vaidyanathan's influence is there in each one of them.

Every day I long to watch ASS 2008 !!!!

P.S. Suresh Kumar said...

Akshi - Technically they say singing Kalaivaniyae is very difficult as it is composed entirely in Aarohanam... Even I felt Ajesh did a great job.. but Ravi attempted a much more difficult song and so the score..

What is Aaorhanam?

http://blogs.prashu.com/music-and-me/content/2007/08/0097/aarohanam-avarohanam.php

Anonymous said...

Aarohanam is the ascent of swaras i.e SRGMPDNS and Avarohanam is the descent SNDPMGRS. All songs have a Ascent and descent across various parts of the song which give it its completeness and character and the ragas melodic beauty is brought out fully. Ilayaraja has composed Kaliavaniye in raga Kalyani in the arohanam i.e using only the ascending notes. This is normally difficult in ragas with lesser melodic notes but in a rich raga like Kalyani this shortcoming does not show up. That is why the song has notes in the rising throughout. Challenging and difficult to compose and even more difficult to sing and sustain at the higher notes. Got KJJ his national award.

Coming to ASS Ravi brought out the song the way IR made it with no variations. He does not improvise which is not really needed since the music director normally (especially IR) has done his homework well. Also Ajeesh tries to add ornamentation to the songs like a true fan of Hariharan. While HH voice is melody rich as well as powerful these additions get placed beautifully in the song(Listen to Poi Solla Kudaathu) sound nice whereas Ajeesh has a melodic but thin voice (still young)and so the beauty of what he is trying to convey falls flat places. That's probably why Srinivas gave Ravi a higher score.

P.S. Suresh Kumar said...

Anon - Thanks for the nice and simple explanation of Aarohanam.

parvathy said...

good assessment indeed..............

Anonymous said...

suresh and anon- thank you both. i have heard that the song was set in the ascending scale of kalyani. but i didnt know that it was considered to be that difficult.. i shall listen to it again :).

i can understand what you mean but i still dont think it justifies the difference in marks. personally i find cinema songs alot more difficult to sing than carnatic. perhaps its just me. and to get the feel right.

for instance i have heard many very good carnatic singers around me sing light tunes and the feeling aspect always falls flat. once that happens, the song i believe loses its flavour.

in the beginning i really believed it was ravi hands down and then ajeesh and ranjani started unleashing their renditions.

more comments later.. i have to go and watch day 3 of the semi finals! suresh, thanks for your blog!!

Anonymous said...

The reason Karnatic singers rendering light songs generally dont appeal is the fact that

a) Karnatic music is very gamaka dependant(glides across notes) across raga singing and while singing the composition. The voice is heavily trained in this method and emphasis is on powerful clear singing and not light throated singing.

b) Most of the compositions sung by Karnatic singers are in Telugu or Sanskrit(Thygaraja, Dikshitar) which are sung the way their teachers have taught them so the emotional element in light songs may take a hit since they are singing it with their feel which may not be the original song feel what one has heard.

c) Karnatic stage singing requires the voice to rise above the accompaniments to convey the song so there is a bigger powerful throw of voice. When they apply this for a light song things sometimes go out of place.

Earlier music directors were very classically inclined on all their songs so the Karnatic singers had an edge in that period till Ilayaraja (Sundarambal,MSS, Sirgazhi Govindarajan, TMS, KJJ) but all that has changed and now songs are beat oriented which needs a good voice. ARR & VS have used a lot of ragas to good effect but the role of the singer has been lighter.

Singing a light composition appears tougher bcoz you have a song where the creativity has been sealed by the music director, sung by a well known voice and u have a preconceived idea of the scene and the song and how it should be. This makes the job much more difficult for any singer to reproduce and succeed in a different voice.

Light singing is easier for a untrained or semi trained voice bcoz you hit the notes as you hear it whereas when a classical singer takes up a light song their classical experience comes into play and they put in all the gamakas and emotion at the places they feel and not what the original composition had. So it sounds different and new and may be a super hit or get rejected. Guess thats why its called 'Light'

Regarding ASS, Ravi as I had mentioned on this blog earlier is a clinically perfect singer and he sang Kalivaniye in almost the way IR made it it was a flawless rendition. Agreed his voice lacks emotion or 'soul'. Only KJJ bass voice could give u that punch. Even Ajeesh falls short of the emotional aspect. If you are looking at emotional quality Renu leads the pack.

Bye...

I have never been to any forums when it comes to Airtel SS 2008. BUT, after seeing the wildcard round,I need to share what I am seeing. There is so much of favourism for one artist who's preformance was way below average, and she has been pushed to next round each time. And this time I feel enough of that.
After reading a few comments above, now I understand what's making Raginisri still on Airtel SS. Even for a classical singer there should be better voice control. It breaks even in a kuthu song. I feel very sorry for her, that her voice is totally not in her favour. She is a very good musician but there are manymany good musicians outside, this Airtel SS is about singing, whos voice+all aspects of singing are we ready to hear in a cd and feel like hearing them again and again.

This Santhosh should have stayed and should have got the advantage of Ananth voice trainer all these past weeks instead of Ragini. Oh!! my god Deepshit(k)a was much much better she should have been in the past rounds intead of Ragini.
Unfortunately Prasanna's siging is boring now a days, its like hearing to a recorded tape.
Ravi is perfect in terms of technical aspect. Ajish with his magnetic voice, he is totally naturaly gifted. Poodi sangathi.... which he himself doesn't know about is the most glittering part, probably when asked to sing again he cannot sing with the same podi sangathi it will be a new different set of em.Ranjani is very bold and challenging and everything is there but the magic/magnetism.
Vijay Narayan, has all the qualities for a music director. One can make a sloppy music and give it to him to make it fantastic. He has all qualities including constant shruthi outing :)), which is very common for fabulous music directors.
This is just my views, not to hurt anyone :)

P.S. Suresh Kumar said...

SK - Completely agree with whatever you said... and you forgot to mention about Renu who seems to the favourite voice of many

SK- well said. Ditto on everything. even on my favourites who were ajeesh and ranjani. currently i am waiting to see what santosh can pull off.hope he makes it throught the wild round. I was well impressed by the bandit queen song rendition. it sounds terribly difficult.

I had great opinions about some of the singers in A S S 2008 till I watched a few of the episodes of SS Junior in Malayalam Channel - Amrtitha TV. Their performance in toto- like attitude, feel , voice throw, modulation, originality, improvisation, breath control, the ease with which they sing and what not; they are excellent and their performance is really really unbelievable.

hello,

Ravi is an excellent singer..But in the recent episodes he really irritated...Anybody who knows music would have felt bad on hearing his "kalaivaniye" from sindhu bhairavi and "rasathi unna kaanadha nenju"..worst of all was he was praised unnecessarily and given high scores...this song is one of my favorite IR 's best compositions and i ve heard it atleast 1000 times and i know every detail of this song... im very sure Ravi din't even come near the original... He has sung so many songs well and yeah he deserves a top place..but his flaws should also be pointed out...I loved his singing in SS music finals...but somehow that magic is no more happening...

this show clearly says "tamizhagathin bramaandamaana kural thedal" so i think having a good voice is an added advantage...

As u said, there is no enough competition...Can't understand how Ajeesh reached till finals...When I say abt Ravi,y such a good singer fails to impress is my thought...bt when i talk abt Ajeesh y such a singer is considered to be good is my thought...

unlike earlier competitions of Airtel super singer 2006/airtel super singer junior, the present ASS appears to be a preset show, if not for the intiial rounds.
Most of the audience who watch and enjoy the program are not musicians or professionsal or may not even have basic knowledge of music. It is how the presentation attracts the audience. The duty of judges is of course to see the technicalities besides good music. But in many rounds, i observed that the music that touched the audience was not appreciated by the judges. As seen in many of the blogs, i also have a staunch feeling that the producer has already decided the finalist and every episode seems to be a preset show. I also agree with the views of many that Raginisri does not deserve so may re entries. Her voice is good for carnatic and western but most of the times it is flat with cracks. Above all, with the quitting of chinmayi the show lost its charm. The present compering is really horrible to see, be it the body language or the slang. Probably the show moves because it is in the final stage. It is damn sure that further super singer show to be hosted by the present team will have the least TRB rate and lose its audience

Did you hear to what Srinivas said for Raginishri? on the april 28th telecast? "Raginisri you are super singer... slap to the critics"
How can he say someone as super singer while the competition in still going on?.... are all other contestants fool to still compete and hear this? R V all fools to watch this?
oh !! my god. He sounds as if knife is hanging above his head. I suspect that he is said that Raginisri is facing all these issues after she had that conversation with Srinivas on screen when shrinivas said he knows how SPB and chithra sings when he got irritated by Ragainisri months ago. Is he trying to do some damage control for Raginisri. He better mind his business!! I am sorry I had to say this.

Yes, Renu has a very sweet and soulful voice. Who ever becomes the Airtel SS definitely Ajish has a very bright long lasting further in play back singing. Podi sangathi falling in place is a huge plus just like many legends like Yeshudas naturally possess. And fairly good numbers for Renu also. Prasanna will be visiting all countries and do all stage shows. Big money!! definitely many many stage shows at Singapore Malaysia area. Will join the stage crew if not as many songs in his own voice as a playback singer. Ravi might be the super singer but might not last or big money like Ajish would get. I am not a fan of anyone just my deergadharisanam

the dicussion via this blog is often such a relief. as mentioned before, i really dont understand the logic behind many of the decisions taken on super singer.so its comforting to know that there are others who also find some of the decisions ridiculous

i too have heard that the malayalam version has a much higher standard.

has anyone been watching american idol? by the time the top five became the top five, they really were artistes in their own right. there wasnt so much to pick at them about.

anyway as much as i liked ranjani, i didnt think her wild card performance was stellar. but for lack of a better choice, she is a definite

santhosh badly messed up with the judge's wild card round. but i am surprised he didnt make the popular vote. i think prasanna is a good entertainer on usual days. but not on the wild card. i didnt even feel comepelled to cast a vote in his favour based on the wild card performance. for someone who would be excited every sunday anticipating the mon-wed shows, it has really become very disappointing.

i really hope that the final five show us that they have something special about them. of the lot i think ajeesh and ranjani have the most unique quality of voice which would give them an identity in the play back feel. sadly for renu, shreyal goshal is already. unless she really experiments and shows her capacity, she is just going to be another sweet voice one or two song people.

i say this with utmost sadness.i have been viewing many of the blog comments with cynisicm. especially the ideas that the show is staged. how could it be.. it's not WWF :). but oflate..it sure looks like it.

one more question. i liked chinmayee but are the current two hosts that bad. malini was very popular in singapore. she's alittle annoying on Super singer. especially with the ji ji thing. but is it a common opinion in india that the hosting of the show is poor?

Renu deserves the Super Singer 2008 title winner. She has unique, sweet voice(remember Mrs.Manorama's comment about Renu's voice). Ravi sings correctly(as judges say) - but do you think he has sweet voice?

I wish and pray for Renu to win the title.

Ravi sure going to win the AIRTEL SUPER SINGER 2008 title as he deserves it. The way he try to portray the song what ever he sings in the contest was simply superb. Especially in the CARNATIC ROUND he just took the audience soul.

After hearing Ravi singing Udhaya Udhaya in the medley round and Srinivas appreciated it. First, hats off to Rahman for the wonderful composition.

Once again i wish RAVI ALL THE BEST to win the contest and i pary for him to succeed in it. Let GOD show his showers n blessings over him as he deserves it.

I don't know why judges back Ajeesh so much. They are biased. It was obvious. Just for a normal singing (as usual without any expression from Ajeesh), judges say that Ajeesh got involved in the song, expression was good.. and height of tolerance is they give standing ovation. Yesterday (2nd finals) even though other contestant sang very well, they had backed Ajeesh. it was too much. Hope Ravi or Ranjini or Prasanna win the title. But am afraid that judges & producers play a role against the audience wish.

Wickets - I also noticed that... but surprisingly in finals, all the contestants perform as if they are in preliminary rounds... but definitely Ajesh is the best of the lot... next comes Ranjani... Renu needn't have chosen a tough song like 'yennai yenna' which is not so right for live performance..

After the 3 round in the finals, only Ajeesh and Ranjani seem to be the real contenders for the title. Somehow Ravi's songs didnt click in this round. Renu was definitely not the best. And Prasanna fell way behind with the final song.

Only Ravi & Ranjini came good in the 3rd round, so based on consistency Ravi & Ranjini will be the Super Singers 2008. Ajeesh performance was ok, not to win the title. I don't know why Judges are commenting in finals, once the decision is left to public. I feel they are backing Ajeesh, otherwise they will not pass negative comments to Renu. judges jalra to Ajeesh.

Ajeesh would have been eliminated if there is no backing from Judges. is Malyalam background favouring him as one of the judge, anchor etc have Kerala background. Chinmayee dropped because of these unwanted favourism ? God knows better...

I feel Ajeesh lacks versatility, feels etc... i doesn't deserve title as judges are biased for him

Ranjani is the real find of Airtel Super singer... and I would be glad if she wins the title... I am still confused between rani and ajesh....Ravi was technically perfect but lacked the punch that Ajesh's comparitively less perfect performances had...

disappointed that Ranjini got the least number of votes. She sang much better than Renu and prasanna in that round. She didnt deserve that

I too was terribly disappointed and didn't watch the show after the announcement...

i wont accept that ajeesh came 1st.he s not so talented like ravi.ravi s the best singer.he has the talent to win the most prestigeous title.he s the perfect singer.he ll be the super singer.i ll sincerely pray for him........

Though I like Ajeesh's voice I will not agree him as Airtel super singer instead of Ravi. Ravi deserves it better. I could fegure out this, Since Ajeesh is still in college his friend number wil be huge, and contantly on the cell phones. While ago my friend said me that it allowing up to 5 votes per cell phone for one person and 3 at the website and can vote for 3 different person. I always thought vote should be/could be castedf for only one person and only once. This is so weird and unfair and not rightious. This clarifies why the vote numbers are so irrelevent.

I really felt very sad to see Ranjani go; is Vijay TV playing with the results? Ranjani has been singing very very well all these months; there is no doubt about it.

I wish that there is some other Music Director who spot her talent and give her a chance and thereafter she picks up herself.

May God and Luck bless her suitably. She is talented, hardworking and has the learning zeal; is always very confident too.

She has never been overconfident also.

Even for Ravi, the friends number is huge; Ravi's brother is in SVCE and I find a big fight in my sister's house : the daughter an SVCE student backing Ravi but my sister backing Ajesh.

Of course, Ranjani is very good; I can recall her rendering "Karpoora bommai onru Kai veesum......"; Just see the quality that she gives these days. How confident and consistent she is: my God... She should have won the title. Actually, all the 5 are good; not very.............. good and all. Good that s all. This Airtel SS has not identified a voice comparable to sujatha's Chithra's or Yesudas or SPB's. The voice of the singer has to be unparalleled and then comes the question of it being soulful, rhythmic, with sruthi, handling the nuances and all that. This way all of them are highly disappointing.

drama s over. pls stop dis damn voting system......its absolutely nonsense...do they really think dat they r runnin a reality show???????if so, its time 2 realise dat they r casting fool's show...and v r d fools watchin n wasting our precious time.....if the judges r not abl 2 judge it properly pls bring judges like SPB, MSV who will encourage n very importantly they wil b impartial 2 d contestants.
Ravi is awesome in every aspect, he deserves d title..........
i am not against ajesh he has got gud voice....but the title s fr super singer n definitely Ravi deserves more than him...........he can perform any type of song with so much of ease.......but dats not d case with ajesh..his voice wil only suit fr melody.
oh ravi........ dont feel bad...i felt so bad wen they announced d results........always keep in mind this s ur stepping stone 2 glory....way 2 go.........many success ahead......wishing u success in every aspect of ur life.

I would not support Ravi, because his voice was so feeble, sometimes the lower notes are not at all audible, but Ajesh's voice is simply superb, mesmerizing, and magnetic, he deserved the title, I think peoples choice is always the best.

Outside this blog and two other blogs also a lot of talk is going on about the verdict regarding Airtel Super Singer title.

Some comments by some experts I shall share with you:

a. If Ravi had been awarded, then everyone would say Ajeesh deserved it better; so there is no end to this argument. Instead of being subjective, let us be objective.

-accusation: Thamizhagathin brahamandamana Malayala Kural thedal : this Ajeesh may be a Malayalee; but he cannot sing Malayalam songs. I am sure he cannot even talk Malayalam like a native speaker: why even his mom may not be able to. The Judge Unnikrishnan too is born and brought up in Chennai; he is a pucca chennaiite. Of course Sujatha is a pucca Malayalee. M.S.Viswanathan also is a Malayalee. If we look at it this way, then there will arise ethnic crisis.

All the 5 top finalists are NOT 100% perfect and versatile. In fact all the 5 have one great trait or the other; and, we will find all of them becoming playback singers in their own right and capacity. Almost one year dragging fight for this title is the one I cannot digest.

though a mere comparison between SS and Idea Star Singer in Asianet would not do good...the judges for Asianet Star Singer clerly demonstrates that they are far more knowledgeable then SS judges....One Sharath is enough for the whole lot.......!!!

Ajeesh Ravi and Renu failed miserably at Vijay Awards Function; they had such great audience. they should have proved their mettle.
