The nominations clearly shows that you have a wide taste and give hearing to most of the new albums without prejudice :)

OMG, Its shocking to find Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu missing from the list. Havent you listened?
Has three gem numbers. One of the best albums of the year. I would rate it one rank above Poo :)

you could have nominated Ilayaraja's wife also in some section.

sakkarakkatti and dasavatharam should come in place of those two "family nominations".

Suresh,
Sadly, have not heard most of these, except Poo and Vaaranam Aayiram(started listening a few days back only).

I am surprised that you have the courage to listen to the songs of today. Though I have heard some praise for Ilayaraja's Uliyin Osai, haven't had the guts to actually listen to it. Personally, I have been feeling that IR's hardcore fans are so affected by the big fall, that they praise even his average work. I am open to all. The same goes to ARR for most of his music in recent years.

Glad to see a lot of new faces. Personally, Vaaranam Aayiram's lyrics by Thamarai (Aanal Mele, Munthinam, Anjala(?) were all very good. For the last one, even with a kuthu song, the treatment of using just Tamil was interesing. It affected me more than Poo...though both were good changes.

Chinmayi's rendition of Avarampoo(heard after reading your review) was good, yes. One of the few others I heard this year.

Surprised to see that Karthik Raja is still around:-)

Sad to see a lot of talented artists missing from the list, though happy to the entrance of youngsters. Unfortunately, cannot recall any names accept Naresh, Chinmayi, Sandhavi of the younger lot.

-Kajan

cool. This post serves a good reference..to check some of the good songs. Will check them out.

And Anonymous(who suggested Sakkarakkatti & Dasavatharam) --> Sakkarakkatti is no thiruda thiruda or Sangamam. The least i talk abt Dasa, the better.

Anonymous (who suggested a nomination for IR's wife)--> i dont care abt what Yuvan or Karthik raja do...but u ought to listen to 'Uliyin Osai' before making that comment.

Sorry suresh, for using your comments section to communicate with Anons here.

Kajan - Overall, Tamil Film Music has been less innovative or experimental this year and there are only a handful of songs that could stand the test of time. I have already expressed this in my blog before. But I haven’t given up completely. These (nominees) were the best of the lot in 2008 according to me. You must listen to ‘Uliyin Oosai’, there is nothing out of the box in UO Illayaraja does what he is best at doing. Karthik Raja is still around, yes and he deserves to be and hoping to listen more of his works in the future also.

Aakarsh – How can you explain your stand to someone who thinks ‘Dasavathaaram’ or ‘Sakkarakatti’ music is better than ‘Uliyin Oosai’? Once you hear that statement from the other side, the argument ends there. Anyway, thanks for replying to anon.
