Unnalae Unnalae Soundtrack

The soundtrack of “Unnalae Unnalae” is neither good nor bad. Harris Jeyaraj should seriously think about trying something new.

Except for the Synth horn piece with which the song starts, “June Pona” song has nothing new. The beats, guitar usage, chorus, the way the song is sung and the overall format of the song are exactly the same as “Manjal Veyil” song. I think, even the tune is in the same meter. But the tune is okay and what makes it worth listening is the new voice Krish, a good find. Btw, is it a pathos song? “Hello Miss” has interesting rhythms and surprising twists and turns. I like songs with few surprises here and there. But I have the heard-before feel, may be the beats are similar to that of “Shakalaka baby”.

When I first the heard the starting horn bit of the song “Vaigasi Nilavae”, I was afraid whether Harris would go to an extent of directly ripping of Vangelis Chariot of Fire. But thank god, it stops within the first few seconds of the song. The song throws in some surprises in the middle by changing rhythm to Tabla from e-beats and the disjointed second interlude with string arrangement is also nice but as the melody itself falls flat, the song as a whole doesn’t impress.

I am tired of these club beats and bass guitar in Harris’s song, the guitar strumming is the only savior of the song “Muthal Naal”, though we have heard it many times before. The tune as such is very good but as it proceeds to charanam, the tune lacks the same pep and catch it initially had. “Ilamai Ullasam” is a short and sweet song with a casual peppy tune and nice vocal harmony and arrangements. I didn’t like the main tune of the song “Unnalae Unnalae” until Harini slipped in to sing it with her own classical touches. But that’s about it. The song as a whole doesn’t hold our attention.

Hmm...yes, Minnale remains my most favourite and (as far as I know) the most appealing album from HJ. Of course, he has given some other hummable songs in various albums.

I wonder if you have heard his latest telugu album Sainakudu. He has totally(anyone can see) copied ARR's Chaiyya Chaiyya so obviously. I wonder if director pressured him. Everything from instrumental arrangement, tune and singing is the same.

Yeah i also heard "Chilaka" song, starting from Malathi's open throadted singing in the starting, the song is a shameless copy.... I still wonder why Harris has to do this, when he himself is capable of doing something good and original....

From your review, it is clear that you highly dislike Harris Jayaraj and you are a big fan of A.R. Rahman. Come on man, you run a blog to review other films. Be a bit more professional and stop letting how you feel about the MD interfere with what you're writing. I for one think that this is a fabulous album. And I'm a Telugu and in an interview, Gunasekhar, the director of Sainikudu, has said himself that HE told Harris that he wanted something similar to Chaiyya Chaiyya and he says he is HIGLY SATISFIED with the end product. You really cant blame Harris for that one. You know what? I myself was an A.R. Rahman fan. I used to go hunting for his old classics, even my parents couldnt take it. But after looking at the behaviour of other ARR fans, who LOVE criticizing other people, I slowly began to lose my liking for him.

Hansika,
It doesn't make sense to dislike ARR for the behaviour of his fans. Even I am an ARR fan, but dislike his fan(atics), who behave idiotically. But we must understand, the the views of such people are to be taken with a pinch of salt. But this is not the first time, nor probably the last time HJ is copying.

Coming to Suresh, I think he is professional in his reviews. For that matter, in his past reviews, he has praised many MDs. I think you need to read him other reviews instead of just posting anything you want too.

zero,

atleast Kathadi Pola was not easily recognisable... Malathi is good with a unique voice, she is apt for some of songs (like her debut song in Anbe Sivam) but i would say our composers haven't experimented much with her voice... I have been waiting to listen her singing a solo melody....let us see

Well, it's hard not to. His fans just love badmouthing other MD's. They're the same with Ajith fans. It's really annoying to me because I was open to all types of music coming from all MD's. And come on, this review is NOT PROFESSIONAL. He lets his feelings for HJ interfere with his review. The songs aren't as bad as he makes them seem.

@hansika
i guess suresh said songs falls under usual flavor of HJ not a different one. thats it. and its an acceptal review with a neutral standard.
May be director or whom ever would have pressured music director to so. its a team and context based effort and not like a album production.
coming to audience vote, well Saigkundu songs reached audience in a good tapping rhytm.

Yes, exactly. In the end, no matter how much you badmouth other MD's, its the public who decides. A.R. Rahman fans used to badmouth Ghajini comparing "Suttum Vizhi" to Rahman's interpretation of it in Kandukondain Kandukondain. But in the end, the song was a HUGE hit.

hi,i am relatively new to opining in blogs:) so far done so only in Bb thots:) anyways as i was surfing for reaction to few latest songs came across this..suresh,i totally agree with ur review xcept probly i think june ponaal july kaatru has bn sung well by krish, and knowing jeeva he will make it a visually enticing song :)but HJ HAS to come up with some thing new and not just keep recycling wine in new bottles:D

hi hansika..then i think the director shd b =ly blamed for copying...surely he cn come up with smting new...and such an established md like HJ can v well refuse!!!whats wrong with the good old word sorry but No thank u!???
i have been reading suresh's reviews and he is the last person to base his opinion on his pers
likes and dislikes..

and as kajan said...why del ARR for his fan's actions???

dsnt make sense...

i think a lot depends on the song picturisation...and the director's visuals carried out by the cinematographer in making even a mediocre song a runaway success...what says u???

P.S. Suresh Kumar said...

That is really a bad execuse for lifitng a tune exactly. A composer who have reached such a popular status needn't do that. he can very well say i won't do it. but why did it? Survival? afraid of survival in telugu film industry????

Rekhs - ofcourse, a cinematography matters a lot when it comes to the overall success of the song. But what makes the initial impact even before the release of the movie is the music, and it is on this initial impression on which everything else is based on....

but there hv bn many songs where the visual has helped the sale of audio!
or vice versa!:)
