Dasavathaaram Soundtrack

I was skeptical about Himesh pulling it off in Dasavathaaram; but I had some hopes as he is going to work under Kamal’s command. I didn’t expect much from it and so I am pleased with the output. Infact, Himesh surprised me with the orchestration of the song. In my little exposure to Himesh’s music, I have never heard such solid orchestration in his songs. The songs are devoid of any bollywood or typical Himesh sound. If there is something that is typical of Himesh in the soundtrack, it is the catchy hook lines in all the songs and even that works favorably. Vaali and Vairamuthu keep the Tamil flavour intact and add quality to the songs with their meaningful lines. Except for the typical club item number ‘Kaa Karupanukkum’ and extremely hilarious Himesh’s version of ‘Oh ho sanam’, the soundtrack is worth listening.

BTW, do u know that the tune of "Kallai mattum" is ripped off from a malayalam song ?

Sorry I have to disagree with your review though I respect your opinion. This is a very mediocre album, & even in a part of the charanam of Mukunda song, the tune is same as Konjum Mainakkale.

Vignesh - I wasn't inspired to write anymore. It is the music (good or bad) that decides the length of my reviews. And I am suprised to know it is a copy, may be that is why Mamooty was called for the audio release function?

Prakash - Yes it isn't a great soundtrack. But as I said, I had very low expectations, so it worked for me. One or two lines sounds the same as that of Konjum mainakkalae...

Suresh

Songs are not devoid of hindi flavor. Doesn't O Oh sanam remind you of As ashique me meri from 36-china town. The beats in this songs have very strong influnce of hindi numbers

Vidhya - I agree that there is hindi flavour but considering that it is a concert song performed by a pujabi singh, the flavour is justified and isn't too distracting....

Dasavatharam music really sucks :( Kamal could have gone for a much better md in tamil (ARR, HJ, YSR, IR) or hindi (Vishal Shekar, Mithoon, SEL). Instead, he went for this guy and gets crap as a result. Kudos to Kamal and Ravikumar for the job.

u should moderate comments before some anonymous come up with brainless comments (and im not talking about the one just before, but the former)

Hey Suresh,

Check out the Pandurangadu soundtrack, if interested! Nice, devotional album by Keeravani.

Good music is what gives enjoyment and what is good for the ears. Dasavataram songs meet both the criteria. My entire family likes it (me - 43 years, my wife (wont put her age), my sons (18, 13 and 4 years of age).

The youngest one just freaks on these songs and even sings along. He won't sleep in the night if we don't play the album once. He sings along all the songs and has a special liking for Mukunda Mukunda and Kallai Mattum Kandal. He even changes his voice to sing along with the old lady voice in Mukunda Mukunda.

Film music is made for the common people to enjoy and not for experts.

Suresh,

I think you have been very nice and diplomatic to Himesh's music.

Original can be found here:

'Mukunda Mukunda' - Sure. Sabesh Murali could come up with a better melody number.

Emjay - Not exactly. Just that I had nothing against Himesh and haven't listened (though have heard a lot) to his music before, I am okay with the songs in this soundtrack....
